Local roofers

Serving the Lumsden community

Local expertise you can trust

We know Lumsden, from valley-set established homes to newer infill serving Regina commuters, and we build to Saskatchewan code for our climate. A mix of valley-set established homes and newer infill serving Regina commuters. Higher incomes here support premium roofing materials.

Built for Lumsden's weather

Lumsden shares the Regina-area hail exposure (it is only ~31 km away) and the May-to-September hail season, so the August 2021 Regina-region hail event is relevant here too. Our roofing systems are built for it: ice and water shield at the eaves, full underlayment, GAF shingles, and proper ventilation so your home stays protected year-round.

Local challenges

Common roofing challenges in Lumsden, SK

Lumsden sits down in the Qu'Appelle Valley and has flooded at least six times in its history, so water management is not an abstract subject here.

Snow load in a valley town
Lumsden sits in the Qu'Appelle Valley rather than out on the flat, and in 2011 a wet autumn followed by a winter of record snowfall put the town back on flood watch. Snow that heavy on a roof, then a freeze-thaw at the eaves, is how ice dams form and force water back up under the shingles.
Aging roofs in a town settled in 1881
Settlers arrived in 1881, when the place was still called Happy Hollow, and it took the Lumsden name in 1889. Properties from the older part of that history are many roofs deep by now, and worn asphalt gets brittle and cracks fast in the cold.
Storm and wind damage
Lumsden functions as an unofficial suburb of Regina 31 km to the southeast and takes the same southern Saskatchewan storm season. Wind lifts and creases shingles and strips ridge caps, and hail bruises the mat under the granules where you cannot see it from the ground.
Poor attic ventilation
A valley setting holds damp air longer than open plain does. A poorly vented attic traps that moisture and it rots the deck from below, and in summer the same attic bakes the shingles. Getting the venting right is half of why a roof lasts.
Drainage in a town with a flood record
Lumsden has taken major floods in 1892, 1904, 1916, 1948 and 1969, and its worst water on record in 1974, after which the town straightened the Qu'Appelle channel and built dikes. The dikes handle the river. What comes off your roof is still yours to manage, and blocked or undersized eavestroughs overflow, feed ice dams and dump water against the foundation during the melt.

We fix the cause rather than the wet spot, so your Lumsden home stays protected.

Our community

All about Lumsden, SK

Originally 'Happy Hollow,' renamed Lumsden in 1889 after Hugh Lumsden, a senior railway engineer, when the line came through. Today Lumsden is home to about 1,800 people. Farming community plus affluent Regina commuters - an unofficial suburb of the capital. Named 'prettiest town in Saskatchewan' by Harrowsmith magazine in 2002; the annual Duck Derby and Scarecrow Festival; the scenic Qu'Appelle Valley setting.

The town has taken major floods in 1892, 1904, 1916, 1948 and 1969, saw its highest water levels on record in 1974, and afterwards straightened the Qu'Appelle River channel and built dikes.

For a town of 1,800 Lumsden has produced a striking number of artists, among them the painter Illingworth Kerr, the sculptor Joe Fafard, who died here in 2019, and John Cullen Nugent, and the folklorist Edith Fowke was born here. The Lumsden Monarchs were a founding member of the Highway Hockey League in 1965. People who choose a valley town for how it looks tend to care how the work looks when it is finished, and we quote the finish details here rather than leaving them to chance.

From valley-set established homes to newer infill serving Regina commuters, a solid roof matters here, because Saskatchewan weather does not let a worn one slide. W Contracting serves Lumsden with honest assessments, clean job sites, and a 10-year workmanship warranty on every roof we install, from emergency leak repairs to full replacements.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions, Lumsden roofing

How long does a roof replacement take in Lumsden?
Most Lumsden roof replacements are done in a single day once the job is booked and materials are staged. Larger or steeper roofs can run into a second day. Weather can shift the schedule, and we will always keep you posted.
Do you provide a warranty on your Lumsden roofing work?
Yes. Every roof we install in Lumsden carries a 10-year workmanship warranty, on top of the GAF System Plus manufacturer warranty on the materials. If anything in our work needs attention in that window, we come back.
How do you handle heavy snow loads and ice dams in Lumsden?
We install ice and water shield along the eaves to stop ice damming, full underlayment, and proper attic ventilation so heat and moisture do not get trapped. That detailing is exactly what Lumsden's winters demand.
Do you help with storm damage and SGI insurance claims in Lumsden?
Yes. We are HAAG Certified, so on a Lumsden roof we inspect the way an adjuster does, document everything with photos and video, and work alongside your adjuster so the approved scope reflects the real, storm-caused damage.
Which areas of Lumsden do you serve?
We serve all of Lumsden, including valley-set established homes, newer infill serving Regina commuters, and the surrounding area. We quote any project within about two hours of Saskatoon, including acreage and farm roofs.
