Named for the York Farmers Colonization Company, formed by Ontario businessmen in 1882. The settlement physically relocated in 1888-89 to meet the new rail line - a town that moved to the tracks. Today Yorkton is home to about 16,280 people. A regional service centre for southeastern Saskatchewan - healthcare, education, retail and agri-business.
