Lumsden roofing
Storm and hail damage is what we handle most, and Lumsden sees its share. Lumsden shares the Regina-area hail exposure (it is only ~31 km away) and the May-to-September hail season, so the August 2021 Regina-region hail event is relevant here too. Its signature local hazard is flooding - the town sits in the Qu'Appelle Valley on the Qu'Appelle River, with major floods in 1892, 1904, 1916, 1948, 1969 and a record high in 1974, which makes water management, ice damming and eavestrough drainage especially important before spring melt.
Here is the problem with hail: the damage that matters is usually the damage you cannot see from the driveway. Hail bruises the mat under the granules. Those bruises shed granules, expose the asphalt to the sun, and turn into leaks a year or two down the road. Wind lifts and creases shingles and tears the ridge caps right off. We get up on your Lumsden roof, mark every hit, photograph and video it, and give you a straight answer about whether you are looking at a repair or a full insurance restoration.
Roofs we have finished

Most storm-damage roofs around Lumsden are handled through an SGI or private insurance claim. We are HAAG Certified, which means we inspect the way an adjuster does and can tell real, storm-caused bruising from cosmetic marks. We document the damage thoroughly, meet your adjuster on site when it helps, and lay out a clear scope. No inflated claims, no games, just an accurate record so your policy covers what it should.
Once the claim is approved we strip the roof to the deck, check the plywood for rot, and rebuild it the way it should have been built the first time: ice and water shield along the eaves to stop ice damming, full synthetic underlayment, new drip edge, GAF shingles, and proper ventilation. Every restoration carries our 10-year workmanship warranty.
Why does it matter that a roofer actually knows Lumsden? Originally 'Happy Hollow,' renamed Lumsden in 1889 after Hugh Lumsden, a senior railway engineer, when the line came through. Lumsden counted 732 private dwellings at the 2021 census with 700 of them occupied, so 32 stood empty. Settlement here goes back to 1881, when the place was still called Happy Hollow, and the town took its present name in 1889 after Hugh Lumsden, a senior railway engineer. What sets the roofs apart from the prairie average is the valley itself: damp sits in the Qu'Appelle longer than it does on open plain, and damp is what turns a small flashing fault into a rotted deck. Knowing the age of the housing and the way storms track across this part of Saskatchewan is what tells us how to spec your roof. We reach Lumsden 31 km northwest of Regina (~220-230 km from Saskatoon), via Hwy 11 and Hwy 20.
What a HAAG Certified storm inspection looks for
| What we check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Hail bruising | Hail bruises the mat under the granules. You often cannot see it from the ground, but those bruises shed granules, expose the asphalt to UV, and turn into leaks a year or two later. |
| Wind damage | Wind lifts and creases shingles and tears off ridge caps. We get up there, mark every hit, and photograph it. |
| Cosmetic marks or real damage | We are HAAG Certified, so we inspect the way an adjuster does and can tell the difference between cosmetic marks and bruising that will cut your roof’s life short. |
| The deck underneath | Once a claim is approved we strip the roof to the deck and check the plywood for rot before anything new goes on. |
| Claim documentation | We document the damage with photos and video, meet your adjuster on site when it helps, and lay out the scope clearly. Most storm-damage roofs in Saskatchewan go through an SGI or private insurance claim. |

What storm season actually does in Lumsden
No community we serve has a longer documented water record than Lumsden. Major floods came in 1892, 1904, 1916, 1948 and 1969, and 1974 brought the highest water levels in the town's history, with volunteers coming out from Regina and every surrounding community to sandbag. The town responded by straightening the Qu'Appelle River channel and building dikes. In 2011 a wet fall and a winter of record snowfall put it back on watch, and that time the water stayed out.
What none of that infrastructure covers is the water your own roof collects. A blocked trough or a failed valley in a valley town with heavy snowfall puts water exactly where you least want it, and we treat storm work here as a drainage problem as much as a shingle problem. Lumsden attained town status on 15 March 1905, and its early economy was built around a flour mill that opened in 1904 and did a thriving business until it burned down in the 1920s.
After the boom before the First World War the population settled around 500 and stayed there until the four-lane divided highway was put through the valley early in the 1960s and Regina commuters began building here. The town now runs a Duck Derby down the Qu'Appelle every year since 1987 and a Scarecrow Festival each September, and it hosted Queen Elizabeth II at the Lumsden Sports Centre in May 2005. The practical point for us is that Lumsden's housing arrived in two clear waves, pre-war and post-1960s, and they fail differently.

We had a leaky roof and what we thought was going to be a total nightmare and financial disaster turned out to be a relaxing, stress-free and affordable process. Nathan kept communication going and was patient and knowledgeable when I was choosing shingles. We were so impressed we didn't bother getting quotes from other companies. It's W Contracting all the way!
We were fortunate to find W Contracting when we needed a roof replacement. An earlier company kept saying they'd start in a few days and then never showed up. Nathan and his crew were methodical and willing to do the little extras a shingling job requires. Prompt, quick, thorough, and left the site very tidy. A very solid 10 out of 10.
We had Nathan out for a hail estimate and the service was nothing short of remarkable. The estimate he provided, along with his knowledge and advice, was so thorough that even my insurance adjuster took note. I highly recommend W Contracting for all your roofing needs!
We had new shingles put on our home and had a very positive experience with Nathan and his crew. They have a great selection of shingles to choose from and a great warranty. Thank you for treating our home well and making the roof look great.
From repairing the roof, installing new shingles, clean-up and competitive pricing, they were professional and efficient in every step. Would trust them to do a roof anytime and will recommend them to everyone we know.
Nathan came out at 3 am to re-tarp my roof after the tarp was torn off in a storm. They did a fantastic job with everything, including clean up. I would fully recommend them. 5 plus stars.
Nathan was fast and efficient fixing my rain gutter after it blew down during the night! Very friendly, would definitely recommend.
Would recommend Nathan and his team to anyone looking for a quality roof job. They were very accommodating with my time frame, budget and the nature of the job. Left the site clean and tidy. A+
