Martensville is young. Isaac Martens and his son Dave bought land north of Saskatoon in 1939 and sold off parcels to families moving out of the city, a lot of them Mennonites who wanted to stay near the Hague-Osler community. It was incorporated as a village in 1966 and a town three years later, and became a city in 2009.
Water and sewer went in during 1976, and the population roughly doubled over the next five years, from 960 to 1,966. The old golf course came down in May 2008 to make room for new houses and the outdoor pool, and the new Lake Vista neighbourhood got its own K-8 school for the 2017-18 school year. At the 2021 census the city had 3,799 private dwellings, 3,639 of them occupied.
