Hepburn roofing

Storm and hail damage is what we handle most, and Hepburn sees its share. Hepburn sits in the same central-Saskatchewan hail belt and freeze-thaw zone as the rest of the corridor, with the May-to-September storm season bringing hail and wind risk and heavy prairie snow load through winter.

Here is the problem with hail: the damage that matters is usually the damage you cannot see from the driveway. Hail bruises the mat under the granules. Those bruises shed granules, expose the asphalt to the sun, and turn into leaks a year or two down the road. Wind lifts and creases shingles and tears the ridge caps right off. We get up on your Hepburn roof, mark every hit, photograph and video it, and give you a straight answer about whether you are looking at a repair or a full insurance restoration.

Most storm-damage roofs around Hepburn are handled through an SGI or private insurance claim. We are HAAG Certified, which means we inspect the way an adjuster does and can tell real, storm-caused bruising from cosmetic marks. We document the damage thoroughly, meet your adjuster on site when it helps, and lay out a clear scope. No inflated claims, no games, just an accurate record so your policy covers what it should.

Once the claim is approved we strip the roof to the deck, check the plywood for rot, and rebuild it the way it should have been built the first time: ice and water shield along the eaves to stop ice damming, full synthetic underlayment, new drip edge, GAF shingles, and proper ventilation. Every restoration carries our 10-year workmanship warranty.

Why does it matter that a roofer actually knows Hepburn? An early-1900s railroad town. When the line closed in 1989 it stranded three grain elevators; one survives as the Museum of Wheat, a 1928 Saskatchewan Wheat Pool elevator. (Bethany College, a Mennonite Brethren school, operated here until 2015.) Hepburn counted 276 private dwellings at the 2021 census with 268 of them occupied, on 1.14 square kilometres. The town's housing is genuinely mixed, because the population passed 800 before the 1930s, fell under 300 by the end of that decade and has been rebuilt in stages ever since, most recently in the 14% growth to 2021. Age has to be established building by building here, and we do that rather than guessing from the street. Knowing the age of the housing and the way storms track across this part of Saskatchewan is what tells us how to spec your roof. We reach Hepburn 45 km north of Saskatoon via Hwy 12 and Hwy 375.

What a HAAG Certified storm inspection looks for

What we checkWhy it matters
Hail bruisingHail bruises the mat under the granules. You often cannot see it from the ground, but those bruises shed granules, expose the asphalt to UV, and turn into leaks a year or two later.
Wind damageWind lifts and creases shingles and tears off ridge caps. We get up there, mark every hit, and photograph it.
Cosmetic marks or real damageWe are HAAG Certified, so we inspect the way an adjuster does and can tell the difference between cosmetic marks and bruising that will cut your roof’s life short.
The deck underneathOnce a claim is approved we strip the roof to the deck and check the plywood for rot before anything new goes on.
Claim documentationWe document the damage with photos and video, meet your adjuster on site when it helps, and lay out the scope clearly. Most storm-damage roofs in Saskatchewan go through an SGI or private insurance claim.

Storm exposure

What storm season actually does in Hepburn

Hepburn is a compact town, 268 occupied dwellings inside 1.14 square kilometres roughly 45 km north of Saskatoon, and it has no valley, no ridge and no mature shelterbelt to break weather coming across open ground. The tallest structure left standing in it is the grain elevator the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool built in 1928, now the Museum of Wheat, which survived when the province closed the rail line in 1989 and two of the town's three elevators came down. On a street that tight, a hail cell that hits one roof has almost certainly hit the neighbours, and we would rather inspect the row than take one homeowner's word for where the damage stopped.

Hepburn's history explains why its roofs are so mixed. The town sent more than 60 men to serve in the Second World War, and it was the years after that war, once people came back, that new homes started going up again following the collapse to under 300 residents in the 1930s.

Bethany College operated here until it closed in May 2015, and Hepburn School has been in use since well before its 75th anniversary in 2001. Institutional roofs, post-war houses and brand new construction all sit inside 1.14 square kilometres, and hail does not distinguish between them.

FAQs

Hepburn storm & hail damage restoration questions

My Hepburn roof took hail. What should I do first?
Call us for a free Hepburn inspection at (306) 620-9709. The sooner we document it, the better, because insurance claims have deadlines and bruised shingles keep shedding granules. We will tell you honestly whether it is a claim or not.
Do you handle the SGI / insurance side in Hepburn?
We document the damage on your Hepburn roof with photos and video and work alongside your adjuster so the approved scope matches the real damage. The claim is yours; we make the roofing side simple.
What if my Hepburn roof only has cosmetic marks?
Then we tell you that. As HAAG Certified inspectors we will not push a replacement your Hepburn roof does not need.
