Drake roofing

Storm and hail damage is what we handle most, and Drake sees its share. Drake sits in central Saskatchewan's continental storm pattern - a May-to-September hail and thunderstorm season, heavy snow load, and pronounced freeze-thaw cycling. It is north of the south-central hail maximum, so summer hail is a regional risk rather than a Regina-level frequency.

Here is the problem with hail: the damage that matters is usually the damage you cannot see from the driveway. Hail bruises the mat under the granules. Those bruises shed granules, expose the asphalt to the sun, and turn into leaks a year or two down the road. Wind lifts and creases shingles and tears the ridge caps right off. We get up on your Drake roof, mark every hit, photograph and video it, and give you a straight answer about whether you are looking at a repair or a full insurance restoration.

Most storm-damage roofs around Drake are handled through an SGI or private insurance claim. We are HAAG Certified, which means we inspect the way an adjuster does and can tell real, storm-caused bruising from cosmetic marks. We document the damage thoroughly, meet your adjuster on site when it helps, and lay out a clear scope. No inflated claims, no games, just an accurate record so your policy covers what it should.

Once the claim is approved we strip the roof to the deck, check the plywood for rot, and rebuild it the way it should have been built the first time: ice and water shield along the eaves to stop ice damming, full synthetic underlayment, new drip edge, GAF shingles, and proper ventilation. Every restoration carries our 10-year workmanship warranty.

Why does it matter that a roofer actually knows Drake? Founded around 1908 and named after Sir Francis Drake, the English sea captain - many village streets carry the names of Drake and his crew (Francis, Howard, Norreys, Hawkins, Gilbert). A landlocked prairie grain village themed around an Elizabethan privateer. Drake counted 103 private dwellings at the 2021 census with 91 of them occupied, which leaves twelve standing empty in a village of 197 people. Drake has been incorporated since 19 September 1910 and its population has not moved in five years, so roofs here get replaced on genuine end of life rather than on a schedule. The empty buildings are the ones we most want to get eyes on. Knowing the age of the housing and the way storms track across this part of Saskatchewan is what tells us how to spec your roof. We reach Drake 125 km east of Saskatoon on Hwy 20, just south of the Yellowhead (Hwy 16), via Hwy 20 and Hwy 16 (Yellowhead) nearby.

What a HAAG Certified storm inspection looks for

What we checkWhy it matters
Hail bruisingHail bruises the mat under the granules. You often cannot see it from the ground, but those bruises shed granules, expose the asphalt to UV, and turn into leaks a year or two later.
Wind damageWind lifts and creases shingles and tears off ridge caps. We get up there, mark every hit, and photograph it.
Cosmetic marks or real damageWe are HAAG Certified, so we inspect the way an adjuster does and can tell the difference between cosmetic marks and bruising that will cut your roof’s life short.
The deck underneathOnce a claim is approved we strip the roof to the deck and check the plywood for rot before anything new goes on.
Claim documentationWe document the damage with photos and video, meet your adjuster on site when it helps, and lay out the scope clearly. Most storm-damage roofs in Saskatchewan go through an SGI or private insurance claim.

Storm exposure

What storm season actually does in Drake

Drake is 197 people in 91 occupied dwellings on 0.64 square kilometres, surrounded on every side by the crop and livestock farms of the Rural Municipality of Usborne No. 310. There is no shelter here at all.

The village also carries two working industrial buildings, Drake Meat Processors and Bergen Industries, both founded locally, and a commercial roof takes hail differently than an asphalt shingle roof does. When we come out after a storm we look at the farm and shop buildings as well as the house, because those are usually the ones carrying the value and usually the ones nobody has been up on. Drake keeps more infrastructure than its population suggests.

Drake Elementary School serves the village and the surrounding areas that have no school of their own, with students moving to Lanigan Central High School after Grade 8, and the Drake Canucks took the 2023 Senior Hockey Saskatchewan Provincial A championship. A village of 197 people that supports a school, a rink and two industrial employers has a lot of roof area per resident, and most of it is the kind nobody climbs until something goes wrong.

Do you handle the SGI / insurance side in Drake?
We document the damage on your Drake roof with photos and video and work alongside your adjuster so the approved scope matches the real damage. The claim is yours; we make the roofing side simple.
What if my Drake roof only has cosmetic marks?
Then we tell you that. As HAAG Certified inspectors we will not push a replacement your Drake roof does not need.
